MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Much to the Republican party's chagrin, Donald Trump's poll numbers are rising faster than any other announced GOP presidential contender.
Now his rivals are doing what they can to steal back the spotlight from the billionaire and they are finding out that it is not that easy.
When one of Trump's closest rivals sent out a fundraising email calling him a "dumb-dumb," Trump naturally fired back.
"The only one beating me in Iowa is Scott Walker and not by that much," said Trump as he declared the gloves were finally coming off. "Oh finally, finally I can attack, finally,"
The latest poll from the battleground state of Iown put Trump two points behind Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker - well within the poll's margin of error.
"Yoy know he gre up right next door, a real advantage right," Trump told those at campaign rally and picnic, "Except that Wisconsin is doing terribly."
Trump is overshadowing all of the other candidates in the race at this point and not even his controversial comments about Mexican-Americans and John McCain were able to stop his rise in the polls.
In New Hampshire Trump has risen to the top, well ahead of Walker and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
"He's having a moment right now," said John Heilman, co-managing editor for Bloomberg Politics. "It's a little unclear how long this moment is going to last but he has basically blotted out the sun for all other Republican candidates."
Most of the other candidates will get their first chance to take on Trump face-to-face when the GOP lines up for its first debate next week in Cleveland.
