Trump, Biden To Hold Dueling Rallies In Florida On Thursday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - In the final leg of their respective campaigns, both President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden have their eyes on Florida.

On Wednesday, Donald Trump Jr. made campaign stops in Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, and Vero Beach.

"Oh Florida, you guys spoil me. The crowds here are too good. They're rowdy. I like it," Trump, Jr told supporters in Jacksonville.

President Trump is scheduled to be back in Miami-Dade on Wednesday night. On Thursday, he'll deliver remarks at a Make America Great Again Victory Rally in Tampa.

Biden will also rally support during a campaign stop in Tampa on Thursday.

"If you took the demographic characteristics of these people," USF Political Science Professor Ed Benton said. "That they would almost always correctly predict, going back 30 and 40 years, who won the election."

Biden will also hold an event in Coconut Creek. He sent former President Barack Obama to North Miami last Saturday in an effort to make sure minorities vote.

The campaign is working to make sure Black voters including Haitian and Caribbean Americans vote. The Trump campaign has been making sure its supporters who are likely voters actually vote.

On Tuesday, Obama campaigned in Orlando for the hard-fought I-4 corridor.

"He's jealous of COVID's media coverage," Obama said. "If he had been focused on COVID from the beginning, cases wouldn't be reaching new record highs across the country this week."

In most polls, presidential candidate Joe Biden is leading slightly.

Experts say Trump needs Florida and its 29 electoral votes to help his chances on staying in the White House.

"There aren't many paths to 270 that don't include Florida for President Trump. If you're the Democrats, boy if you can take Florida, you can win the election," said Charles Zelden, a history and political science professor at Nova Southeastern University.

"It kind of comes down to Florida, Florida, Florida," he added.
