MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A federal jury convicted a Florida truck driver of kidnapping and interstate domestic violence which could result in a life sentence.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami reported Monday that 47-year-old Timothy John Miers has become the first individual charged with domestic violence in federal court in South Florida.

Authorities say Miers kept the 40-year-old woman trapped in the cab of his semitrailer for 10 days in August as he traveled from Boston to South Florida. The woman managed to escape at a truck stop in Medley, and bystanders called police. The victim told investigators that she had been physically and psychologically abuse. Prosecutors say videos and photos on Miers' phone showed days of sexual assault.

Two other women who had previously been romantically involved with Miers testified at his trial about his abusive behavior.
