Manager: Truck Crashed Into Fort Lauderdale Gas Station 'With A Good Force'

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – An incredibly close call Tuesday after a truck plowed through a Fort Lauderdale gas station, right where someone was shopping.

It was not a great Tuesday for Joseph Wayne Ligas.

After appearing to stumble through a field sobriety test in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station on NE 4th Avenue, the 67-year-old was arrested for DUI.

Surveillance video captured as his black pickup truck plowed through the plate glass of the gas station's convenience store.

A man was shopping right next to the store window before the impact.

Fortunately, the pickup was going at relative slow speed and the man was only slightly injured after running for his life.

It certainly startled customers and the store manager.

"I wasn't sure, like, was it inside the building or outside, it was just a big boom. Came with a good force, you know," said Syed Ali, the manager of the gas station. "It was kind of scary."

Another look showed the pickup bulldozing through store shelves stacked with groceries, canned goods and drinks.

Aligns charged with DUI, DUI with property damage and failure to use due care.
