Tropical Storm Ian Forms In Central Atlantic

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The ninth tropical storm of this year's hurricane season has formed in the Central Atlantic.

At 11 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Ian was about 1140 miles southeast of Bermuda. The system had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph as it moved to the northwest at 13 mph.

A turn toward the north-northwest is expected over the next day or so. On the forecast track, the center will continue to move over the Central Atlantic through Tuesday. Little change in strength is expected during the next day or so.
Some slight strengthening is possible beginning Tuesday night.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
