Tropical Storm Edouard Nearing Hurricane Status

MIAMI (CBSMiami) –Tropical Storm Edouard is slowly intensifying over the Atlantic, according to a Saturday weather advisory.

At 11:00 p.m., Tropical Storm Edouard was located about 1,010 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour.

It's moving toward the northwest near 14 mph.

This motion is expected to continue for the next two days.

Tropical Storm Edouard is expected strengthen during the next 48 hours and Edouard is expected to become a hurricane late Sunday or early Monday.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect .

Tropical Storm Edouard  is the fifth named tropical storm of the current Atlantic hurricane season.

The last time that name was used was in 2008, when Tropical Storm Edouard came ashore in Texas. The storm was blamed for one death and minor coastal flooding.
