Tropical Depression 10 Is Now Tropical Storm Ida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Tropical Depression 10 has strengthened into a Tropical Storm.
At 11 p.m., newly-formed Tropical Storm Ida was about 915 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. The storm is moving northwest near 7 mph. A turn toward the west-northwest with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile Tropical Depression 9 is still hanging in there, but probably not for long.
It's about 880 miles east-northeast of the Lesser Antilles. The system has become less organized as it moves to the west-northwest at about 9 mph. Its maximum sustained winds were 30 mph.
The depression is forecast to become a remnant low on Saturday and dissipate by Monday.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for either depression.
