Tropical Storm Fred Expected To Become A Hurricane Overnight

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The sixth tropical storm of the 2015 season has developed over the far eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean and has steadily strengthened over the course of Sunday afternoon.
Tropical Storm Fred is forecast to become a hurricane sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning and bring hurricane conditions to portions of the Cape Verde Islands.
As of the 8 p.m. advisory, the center of Fred is located about 115 miles east of Praia in the southernmost Cape Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds reaching 70 miles per hour with higher gusts.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center.
Fred is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph and it's expected to continue to move in that general direction at a slightly slower forward speed over the next 48 hours.
This forecast track takes the storm near or over some of the Cape Verde Islands early Monday morning.
A Hurricane Warning is now in effect for the Cape Verde Islands.
