MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hot is the word to describe South Florida's weather in 2015.
It is going down as the hottest year on record in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Naples and West Palm Beach, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
And that wasn't the only thing that made the cut for the top South Florida weather stories for 2015.
December- typically one of South Florida's driest months - had an extremely wet first week especially in Miami-Dade County. The amount of rainfall caused major losses in the agricultural sector worth millions of dollars.
On the other side of the spectrum, there was an extreme drought too. This year's South Florida summer lacked large amounts of rain in certain parts of the state. The drought- during most of the usual rainy season- didn't completely end until early September.
Speaking of summer, the heat came way earlier than expected and all in one April day. Temperatures in some parts of South Florida hit as high as 100 degrees that day which tied the all-time high temperature for the month of April.
To wrap the list, two twin tornadoes touched down in Palm Beach County on the afternoon of August 3rd. While they were not the most damaging tornadoes of the year, they hit almost simultaneously less than 10 miles apart.
The tornado to the south hit near Okeeheelee Park near Forest Hill Boulevard and the Florida Turnpike, causing damage to trees and wooden structures in the park. The tornado to the north hit near a county landfill west of Dyer Park. No damage was observed with this tornado.
