Time Is Running Out To Replace Old SunPass Transponders

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Time is running out if you have one of the old battery operated SunPass transponders.

This Thursday is you last day to swap it out for one of the newer ones because as of Friday, January 1st, it will no longer work.

SunPass owners were notified by mail and email about the swap. While some procrastinated, others simply forgot to do it.

The swap is free and there are two ways to do it. Go to sunpasstagswap.com and follow the instructions to get a mini or portable transponder. You can all call 1-855-TAGSWAP (1-855-824-7927). The mini is a sticker that attaches to a glass windshield.  It will not work on motorcycles.

The portable uses suction cups to adhere to a windshield.  It can be used on all vehicles including motorcycles.

SunPass says the new transponders provide better accuracy.
