MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Children on a field trip to a fair in Pensacola received quite a scare during a tiger show when one of the big cats clawed the legs of a trainer.
The Pensacola Interstate State Fair said the two year old Bengal tiger named Ghandi was jumping hurdles when it clawed trainer Vincena Pages after she fell. The tiger then latched onto her leg with his mouth and dragged her across the ground.
"As soon as she fell on her butt, he jumped up on the leg because that's an error. You should never fall down," said fellow trainer David Donnert.
Fortunately, Pages' husband rushed into the cage and hit the animal repeatedly until it let her go.
Donnert said Pages stood up on her own and explaine to the children who watching what happened before going to the hospital.
"He never bit and it was never a viscous attack. He never growled. It's playing. We're playing? So he grabbed her with the claws. And tigers are this type of animals. They get very possessive of something they have," said Donnert.
The fair was closed down after the accident.
