NEW YORK (CBSMiami) – North Korea attempted to launch a missile Saturday but it didn't go as planned.
The country showed off its military might at a parade celebrating the 105th birthday of its founding ruler Saturday, including showing off an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time. But they couldn't make good on a vow to test another weapon.
The US military confirmed an unidentified missile launched Sunday morning on the east coast of the country blew up almost immediately.
Vice President Pence visited the region over the weekend, while President Trump spent Easter at his Mar-a-lago estate in Florida where he was briefed on the launch.
It comes as more than 100 protests were held nationwide on what's normally Tax Day, demanding that President Trump release his tax returns.
Protesters and supporters of the president squared off in Berkeley, California on Saturday, sparking violent skirmishes that included make-shift weapons and pepper spray.
Trump supporter John Beavers says he was attacked.
"They only want to hit me with brass knuckles on the blindside," Beavers said. "We're here for free speech. They don't want that. They want confrontation."
More than a dozen people were arrested in Berkeley. In New York City, a march on Trump Tower shut down parts of midtown Manhattan.
"I'm here because I want Donald Trump to release his taxes," said New York protester Tanya Tray, who believed it'll reveal ties to Russia.
