Judge Orders House Arrest For Telenovela Star Pablo Lyle In Deadly Road Rage Incident
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A telenovela star was back in a Miami courtroom after a road rage incident last weekend turned deadly.
An attorney for Mexican actor Pablo Lyle, 32, says bond for his client was set at $50,000 and he was ordered to give up his passport.
The state has not decided new charges at this point. That will be announced during an arraignment set for May 1st.
Prosecutors are considering upgrading his charges to possible manslaughter or second-degree murder. Currently, Lyle is charged with felony battery.
The judge ordered Lyle be held on house arrest at an undisclosed location in Miami until the May hearing.
On March 31st, Lyle was a passenger in a car when the driver accidentally cut off another driver, 63-year-old Juan Ricardo Hernandez, in the intersection of NW 27th Avenue and NW 14th Street.
SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS CAPTURED THE PUNCH:
Lyle was captured on video running out of the passenger side of the vehicle towards Hernandez and knocking him unconscious with one punch.
At the time, Lyle was charged with battery. He was released on $5,000 bond and allowed to return to Mexico.
On April 4th, Hernandez died from his injuries. He had suffered a broken skull and internal bleeding.
Lyle appeared before Judge Alan Fine on Monday morning. The state pushed for a possible second-degree murder charge and a bond of $1 million.
LYLE IS TRANSPORTED TO TGK:
"We are asking that the bond be elevated to one million dollars, that the defendant be placed on GPS with an ankle monitor, and that he be asked to surrender his passport," said the prosecutor.
Lyle's attorney, Bruce Lehr, countered that his client is a victim and was protecting his family. He requested he be allowed to keep his passport and have a bond of $50,000.
"The victim came running up trying to break the driver's window. In the car was, not just a six year old, but his wife and nephew," he told the judge.
Outside the courtroom and after the hearing, Lehr said, "This is an about a man protecting his family."
A fellow attorney held up a photo and said, "Look at this. This is what they don't want to talk about. He was in the car with his wife and two young children. You saw the actions of a man deceased. And you saw what he did. It was a violation of the norms of society."
