Fort Lauderdale police seek person who shot14-year-old shot outside teen club event
FORT LAUDERDALE - Police are seeking the person who shot a 14-year-old among a large crowd of teens gathered outside after an event in downtown early Thursday, The remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Young people had attended a downtown club hosting a teen event at 200 Southwest Third Avenue, Fort Lauderdale police detective Ali Adamson said. The area has several bars and nightclubs.
"We heard one shot go off," one witness told CBS News Miami. "I did not know it was a gunshot at the time. People were running all around," a witness told CBS News Miami.
There was a bloodied T-shirt on the sidewalk. Evidence markers were put up but the scene has since cleared.
Police responded at 1:29 a.m., the morning after Christmas. While the crowd was gathered, an unknown suspect within the crowd fired a gun, striking the teen, Adamson said.
The teen was taken to Broward Health Medical Center.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
FLPD is encouraging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact them immediately.
People who live in the area or go out to the clubs and bars are questioning the teen night.
"That's shocking," Damian Elliston told CBS News Miami. "Yeah, especially under 18. If they're having events like, super late at night. Yeah, that's, that's shocking. That's definitely no, no."
"It was an underage party, and there definitely shouldn't be any guns around," another person said.
