MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police are looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a Miami Northwestern Senior High freshman who was walking home from school.

Family members have identified the 15-year-old who was killed as Johnny Lubin, Jr.

"This juvenile was walking home from school and was approached by a vehicle," said Miami Dade Police Department public information officer Jennifer Capote.  "Shots were fired and unfortunately today, this juvenile lost his life."

Police said the shooting happened on NW 77th St. and 14th Ave. shortly before 4:00 p.m.

"Words can't even describe this feeling right now," said the teen's mother, Julie Examar.

Examar was at work when she received the call her son had been shot. She rushed to Ryder's Trauma Center where her son had been transported.  He underwent surgery but died.

"I just know he got shot in the abdomen, one shot to the head. He got shot twice," she said.

Examar said she has no idea who would want to harm her son and is waiting for answers.

"He was a very outgoing kid. He loved to play football. Everybody loved him," she said.

Lubin becomes the third Northwestern student shot and killed since September.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted out, "Consumed by anguish following news of yet another tragic loss in our Northwestern family. Praying for those affected by this latest tragedy."

The teen's mother is asking for the public's help in finding out who did this and why.

"I want to say, the person who did this, they need to come forward," said Examar. "They need to stop all this foolishness, killing innocent teenagers for no reason. I don't know what's going on. I don't know what happened but it didn't need to happen this way."

If you have information about the shooting, contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
