CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) -- Police have named a suspect in a violent carjacking Halloween night that left a teenage couple shot.

That night, the teens gave what they thought was a harmless ride to five other teenagers. Their helping hand, however, soon turned ugly when 18-year-old Luis Alberto Basalo allegedly pulled out a gun and threatened the driver.

Coral Gables Police say they're not fooled by his baby face.

"We consider him very violent and he does know that we are looking for him at this time," said Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak.

Despite his age, the department is very familiar with Basalo after an extensive record as a juvenile.

"He is wanted as a person of interest in several other cases we are aware of," Hudak added.

According to one of the victims of the Halloween night carjacking, Basalo is cold and calculating.

"I put the car in park and quickly, he took out a gun and pointed at my head," the victim said.

According to police, Basalo then pulled the trigger and shot the teen couple several times as they tried to run from the car.

They're both now recovering from surgery.

Officers later found the stolen car, a black 2007 Infiniti G35, and said it offered just enough evidence for detectives to pursue Basalo in their investigation.

"I can't say enough about the city of Miami PST team. They are the ones that came across the car," expressed Hudak.

November 5th just happens to be Basalo's birthday. Coral Gables Police would like to give him a pair of cuffs on his special day.
