MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A 14-year old boy, recovering after a shark attack off the Florida Coast has a story to tell.
Volusia County Beach Patrol said the teen, from Vero Beach, was in the waters off New Smyrna Beach when a shark bit him Sunday morning, according to CBS News.
Four other surfers were with him at the time of the incident.
Patrol spokesman Captain Aaron Jenkins told the Orlando Sentinel, the teen suffered "significant lacerations" to his hand by what could have been a black tip shark.
His reaction after the bite is surprising. The teen fought back and punched the shark before returning to shore which was about 100 yards away.
"When he was paddling and I thought he was just coming to get us and stuff and then his hand was already red, he was screaming for help," said witness
The boy was eventually able to get back to shore and taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
Just two weeks ago another 14-year old surfer was bitten on the leg in the very same beach.
