Boy Being Treated After Lighting Himself On Fire In "Challenge"
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A popular and dangerous trend is making the rounds on the internet; teens are dousing themselves in alcohol and then setting themselves on fire. It's called "fire challenge" and one is being treated in Miami.
During a "fire challenge" people cooperate by pouring gasoline on their bodies and then putting the fire out, all while videotaping themselves and later uploading it to social media.
Kendall Regional Medical Center's Burn Center received an 11-year-old Tuesday who burned himself after seeing a fire challenge on Facebook.
"Kids are given false information that you can be kind-of cool, 'do this,' and not get burned," said Dr. Carlos Medina at Kendall Regional. "They are doing harm to themselves. If there's a way that we can spread the information so they can stop doing this."
The 11-year old lived to tell about it.
"I just did the fire challenge and my skin is all red, my face, my face right here is peeling because it burned so much," said the child in a YouTube video.

Kendall Regional reports its burn centers across the southeast have taken-in eight fire challenge victims in the last two days.
