NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy found fatally shot in a North Miami Beach alley.
Police believe 16-year-old Anthony Holley was shot to death by Zeke Powell, 18.
"My world came crashing down on me," said the victim's mother, Jada Farrell, devastated just days after he was murdered in an alley. "He did not deserve to be shot and killed the way he was shot and killed. No child does. My son would be turning 17 on Monday."
Holley's friend, who he was with at the time of the crime, later told police they were meeting two guys, possibly brothers, in an alley.
"Our victim, AJ, stopped to tie his shoe, and as stopped to tie his shoe and got back up, one of the subjects shot him in the back of the head," said Det. Joe Romero.
Holley's friend ran for his life as he says Powell shot at him too, hitting the cell phone that was in his hand.
Calls poured in from people who live nearby, reporting gun shots. One man said a teenager had come to his door saying that his friend was hurt in the alley.
Powell went before a judge in bond court Friday who ordered he stay behind bars.
"Please help North Miami Beach Police Department put this behind us…that way I can sleep. I need everybody's help to deal with this," said Holley's mother.
Powell was denied bond, charged with murder and attempted murder.
Police are still looking for the second suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
