Airport spokesman Marc Henderson said the plane was supposed to take off around 2 p.m. for Santa Clara, Cuba. The 142 passengers on the jet were evacuated.
The bomb squad was called in to check it out.
At around 3:40 p.m., airport officials posted the following message on Twitter.

Although most of the people who weren't on the affected plane didn't even know about the suspicious item, travelers said they were concerned to hear about it.
Raina Azar said, "If this were my plane I'd be freaking out."
Olivia Beale added, "It's still scary that it's anybody else's plane."
Miami-Dade Police have since said it was not a bomb, but did not clarify what the item that triggered the alert was.
