FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A teenage boy has become the second suspect arrested after a home invasion kidnapping that sparked a multi-county search and two Amber alerts.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said a 14-year-old helped Stephanie Augustin, 23, in a Friday night abduction of two-month-old Taraji Kemp, taken from a home at 2770 N.W. 14th Court while the baby's mother slept.
Augustin faces multiple charges including aggravated child abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, armed burglary and kidnapping. She's being held without bond in Broward County's Main Jail.
The teenager was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and armed burglary of a dwelling. Police said he was in possession of the gun during the incident.
Both suspects are cousins and according to officials, Augustin is also the child's mother's cousin.
Aware that investigators wanted to speak with her, they said Augustin fled to Orange County where she has an apartment. She was headed back to South Florida when she was pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol near Mile Marker 189. The trooper called for backup and stopped her at Mile Marker 183.
The baby was located safely on Saturday at an Orlando hospital.
Several agencies coordinated their efforts to assist the Broward Sheriff's Office, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Orange County Sheriff's Office, Miami-Dade Police Dept., FBI, and the Florida Highway Patrol.
