MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A man is in police custody stemming from a 2008 murder along Miami Beach.

On September 8, 2008, officers responded to the 1100 block of Collins Court after construction workers discovered the body of 27-year-old Khala I. Brown in an alley, dead from multiple stab wounds.

According to police, the investigation led them to a chef from a Lincoln Road restaurant as the primary suspect. As detectives closed in, the suspect allegedly fled to Guatemala to evade arrest.

Between 2008 and 2013, Miami Beach Police enlisted the help of both U.S. Marshals and several international agencies, including Interpol, who were able to locate and arrest the man in Guatemala.

He was extradited back to Miami and charged with second degree murder.
