Suspect arrested in burglary of BSO Sheriff Gregory Tony's vehicle
FORT LAUDERDALE - Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony's vehicle was burglarized in downtown Fort Lauderdale and a suspect has been arrested, the sheriff's office and Fort Lauderdale police said Tuesday.
Around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, the BSO vehicle was broken into in downtown Fort Lauderdale, BSO said. Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening said the exact location of the incident will not be released because the victim was a law enforcement officer.
According to the arrest report, surveillance video showed a man entering a GMC Denali in the parking garage below living units. Several items were taken, including firearm magazines, a handcuff key and personal items, though no firearms were stolen. The value of the items was under $750.
A BOLO (or be on the lookout for) was issued for a possible suspect.
At 11:56 a.m., Fort Lauderdale Police officers located a man with the same description — Andre Demetric Perry, 42 — in a southbound direction in the 100 block of Northwest Second Avenue.
Perry also was in possession of a BSO fuel card, according to the arrest report.
He was arrested on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of obstructing police with a concealed handcuff key while in custody.
Perry was subsequently arrested on charges including burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and grand theft, and taken to the Broward jail.
In a court appearance Monday morning, Judge Kenneth Gottlieb ordered Perry held on $33,500 bond.
Perry is homeless and violated his probation, according to court information.
