MIAMI (CBSMiami) - America's support for making marijuana legal is at an all time high - if you pardon the pun.

In a recent CBS News poll, 56-percent said marijuana use should be legal, a slight increase from last year and the highest percentage recorded so far.

A slight majority of Americans – 51 percent – now say they've tried marijuana. Only 43 percent admitted to pot use in last year's poll, and 34 percent did in 1997.

Fifty two percent of those polled said they thought alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, while just nine percent thought marijuana was more dangerous.

Most Americans said that a presidential candidate who uses marijuana or supports legalized marijuana would not make a difference in their vote.
