NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBSMiami) -- It's one of the biggest mysteries that has plagued comic book fans for decades -- but actor Henry Cavill has now proven that even in the big apple, Superman's secret identity will remain safe unless he's wearing spandex.

Cavill, 32, who plays the man of steel in the newest Superman franchise, was at Times Square promoting the upcoming superhero showdown, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Despite wearing the iconic Superman logo t-shirt and doing his best to get noticed underneath the giant billboards promoting the film, no one recognized Cavill on the street. No selfies, no autographs, no evil-doers. Superman went unnoticed.

On Cavill's Facebook page, he put it simply: "Dear doubters, the glasses are good enough."

Dear Doubter, The glasses are good enough. Regards, Superman #WhoWillWin #Superman
