Suit Seeks Foul Pole To Foul Pole Netting For MLB Ballparks

SAN FRANCISCO (CBSMiami/AP) – Fan safety at baseball games has become a hot topic in recent years.
A federal lawsuit filed in San Francisco on Monday is trying to force Major League Baseball to install protective netting from foul pole to foul pole to protect spectators from flying bats and balls.
The lawsuit does not ask for monetary damages. Instead, it asks the court to compel Commissioner Rob Manfred to extend the screens that typically cover only a few sections behind the plate all the way down the first- and third-base lines.
The commissioner's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The proposed class action was filed on behalf of Gail Payne, an Oakland A's season ticket-holder. A website asks other season ticket-holders to contact the Seattle-based law firm handling the case, Hagens Berman.
