Student Pilot Survives Plane Crash At North Perry Airport

PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) -- A student pilot is counting his blessings after walking away unscathed from a plane crash Saturday morning at North Perry Airport.
However, he'll also likely have to count out several thousand dollars in fines for damage to the plane and sign along the runway.
Pembroke Pines Police and firefighters responded to the scene, July 2nd, around 9:35 a.m. to find student pilot Luis Castillo, 36, responsible for the crashed 1982 Cessna Skyhawk.
They said he was attempting to land the aircraft when it skidded along the runway and onto the air field before colliding with the runway identification marker.
It's estimated that the crash caused $4,500 worth of damage to the sign and about $10,000 in damage to the plane.
The pilot wasn't hurt and no other passengers were on board.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
