MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Vietnam veteran got his wallet back a month after it was taken while he was shopping at a Publix in The Hammocks.

Surveillance video showed the woman finding and then paying with the stolen wallet in hand.

The wallet she used belongs to 69-year old Vietnam veteran David Shupe who had misplaced it in the produce section.

Shupe said the wallet contained an angel pin that was his grandmother's.  She had placed it in his hand as he said she was dying because he was on his way to fight in the Vietnam war.

The wallet also contained $3,000 dollars that Shupe had just gotten from a bank to wire at the Publix to his pregnant daughter in North Carolina.

Shupe alerted the store about what he'd lost.

Saturday morning, the wallet was returned to Shupe.

"Lo and behold, the lady showed up at my house this morning, 7:30 with the billfold," said Shupe.  "I immediately took out the angel and I was happy, I didn't look at the money or nothing else, I was just so happy to have the angel back in my hand, my heart was light."

Shupe said the woman told him she couldn't locate him to give it back.

"I thanked her for returning my angel, she said she was sorry that she couldn't find me, she asked if I was going to press charges, I told her I had my angel back and that was the most important thing to me."

He said he does not plan to press charges, but will communicate with police Monday.

"I have my angel back, I'm happy," Shupe said.
