Stock Island Home Raid Nets Drugs, Undersize Lobster Tails
STOCK ISLAND (CBSMiami) — Three men in Key West have been jailed on drug charges and possession of hundreds of undersized lobster tails.
Juan Soca Sr., 63, Juan Soca Jr., 42, and Jose Soca, 38, were arrested Thursday after Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies raided their "compound" of side-by-side trailers in Stock Island.
Several agencies participated in the raid including the Department of Homeland Security and Key West Police Department.
Monroe County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the sheriff's office obtained a search warrant after Soca Jr. sold 1.5 ounces of cocaine to an undercover officer on Tuesday. She said they seized property, seafood and large quantities of drugs, including 17.8 pounds of cocaine, 2,100 bars of Xanax, 500 Oxy pills and more than $75,000 in cash.
Inside Jose Soca's trailer, law enforcement officials discovered 14 bags of lobster tails inside a freezer. There were 680 lobster tails. 90-percent of them were undersize, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The three Socas are charged with cocaine trafficking, and Jose Soca faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of the undersized lobster tails.
The men remained in the Monroe County Jail on Friday being held on multi-million dollars bonds.
Herrin said Soca Jr. and Sr. were charged with trafficking in cocaine in 2002. She said Soca Jr., who has 28 arrests since 2001 on various charges, was also arrested for trafficking in cocaine in 2003.
