State Unemployment Drops To 6.2 Percent In November
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — The unemployment rate in Florida dropped to 6.2 percent in December, down from 6.4 percent in November.
November's rate was the lowest since July 2008.
"Once again we continue to distance ourselves from the national unemployment rate and create opportunities for Florida families," Scott said in a press release. "In December 2013, Florida experienced another significant drop in the statewide unemployment rate – down now to 6.2 percent, the lowest since June 2008."
Payroll provider ADP reported earlier this month that the state added 25,230 private sector jobs during the month of December. ADP's survey is separate from the one that is conducted by government agencies.
Scott has contended the state's unemployment rate is dropping due to his policies. But, state economists have said that a big reason for the drop is people are leaving the labor force or had delayed their job search.
Compounding Scott's problem is that while jobs may be appearing, many of those jobs are not careers or pay enough to maintain the cost of living in the state.
