State Supreme Court Seeks Tougher Penalties For Two Judges

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A proposed punishment for Broward Circuit Judge Cynthia Imperato, who was convicted of DUI, has been rejected by the state's Supreme Court.
Imperato had agreed to a 20-day unpaid suspension, $5,000 fine and public reprimand, but on Thursday the high court said 'no' and ordered a full hearing to determine what sanction to impose.
A day earlier, the Supreme Court imposed a 30-day unpaid suspension and a $10,000 fine for Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jacqueline Schwartz.
The court added that harsher penalty to Schwartz's agreed-upon apology and public reprimand for cursing out a convenience store owner over an election sign dispute.
