State Senate Wants To Extend Back To School Tax Break

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Florida Senate leaders are backing a tax cut package that would extend the annual back to school sales tax holiday to 10 days.
A Senate panel is expected to vote Thursday on the proposal to hold the sales tax holiday from Aug. 7 to Aug. 16. During that time consumers wouldn't have to pay the state's 6 percent tax on clothes, school supplies and computers.
Last week, the House passed a $300 million tax cut bill that included only a three-day sales tax holiday.
The Florida Legislature is holding a 20-day special session to pass a new state budget. State government will be partially shut down on July 1 if no deal is reached.
Tax cuts remain among the main items legislators haven't agreed on.
