Starbucks Loyalty Reward Changes Coming & Some Aren't Happy

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Starbucks is changing its loyalty rewards program.
Starting in April, customers will earn points based on how much they spend rather than the current system that gives rewards on visits.
Under the current program, 12 transactions will get you one free item. With the new program, you'll get 2 stars per $1 spent which means customers will have to spend about 62 dollars before they get a free item.
Starbucks says a problem with the current program is that it's based on transactions so some customers ask baristas to separate each items onto different transactions so they can get a reward faster. That can take time and back up the line.
Starbucks predicts the new program will lead to higher spending and though they're not happy, it won't keep customers away.
