Son Of Former Canes Punter Feagles Commits To Miami
Who says special teams don't matter?
The University of Miami's 2017 recruiting class just got a little more special as punter Zach Feagles, the son of former UM and NFL punter Jeff Feagles, made a verbal commitment to the Hurricanes Tuesday.
The younger Feagles is a five-star punter out of Ridgewood High School in New Jersey, where his dad ended his 22-year professional career with the New York Giants. He made a pledge to the Canes over Rutgers.
His dad was the starting punter on Miami's 1987 National Championship team and was inducted into the school's sports hall of fame in 2008. He also won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2008, was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and holds four NFL records – most consecutive games played (352), most punts (1,713), most punts inside the 20-yard line (497) and most punting yards (71,211).
Like his dad, Zach is not a frail-bodied specialist. Listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, he also plays running back for his high school and was a member of the lacrosse team. Punting runs deep in the family as Chris Feagles, Jeff's oldest son, punted for North Carolina and played in the 2008 U.S. Army High School All-American game.
