Shots fired outside Jewish center in North Miami Beach

Arrest made in shooting of police cruiser outside Jewish center

MIAMI — Miami-Dade police are investigating shots fired overnight outside a Jewish center in North Miami Beach. Reportedly, a police vehicle was hit at the scene.

Kabbalah Center members said since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, they've increased their security.

"It's terrible," said Mike Weiss, "It's tough to stomach. So, but it's gonna happen. You can't help it from happening. And all we can do is control what we can do. Each of us can make a difference in the world and it starts within."

The officer is OK.

His patrol car took the hit. A bullet flattened his car tire.

North Miami Beach police issued a statement saying a person fled the area and was quickly involved in a two car crash near NW 1 Ave and NW 167 Street.

Police say one of the drivers in the crash matched the description of the fleeing person.

Despite the scary scene, Weiss and dozens of others still showed up for their morning prayers.

"When there's unruly things happening in the world, which we're seeing more and more today, we just keep trying to put out better and more energy."

Later in the day, police said they had made an arrest in the case.
