Sheldon Wins Democratic Primary For Florida AG
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — George Sheldon won the title of Democratic primary for the state's Attorney General.
Sheldon is a former deputy Attorney General who once worked in the Obama administration. With 43 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday, he led state Rep. Perry Thurston by a margin of 62 to 38 percent.
Sheldon will face Republican incumbent Pam Bondi and Libertarian candidate Bill Wohlsifer in November.
The Democratic primary was a low-profile campaign where the two rivals largely refrained from criticizing each other directly. Instead, they were united in their unfailing criticism of Bondi and the job she has done since taking office in 2011.
They sharply criticized her for opposing a medical marijuana amendment on the November ballot, as well as her fight to retain the state's ban on same sex marriage.
