NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — Several surfers testing the waves at New Smyrna Beach were bitten by sharks in the same area over a period of a few hours.

WESH-TV reported Sunday that three people who were in the water at New Smyrna Beach were bitten. New Smyrna Beach is on Florida's east coast and is just south of Daytona Beach.

The television station reported that a 43-year-old man from Longwood was bitten Sunday morning on the lower leg while surfing. Despite "significant lacerations," he is expected to survive.

Less than a half-hour later, a 36-year-old Miami was bit on both hands while surfing.

About two hours after that attack, a 16-year-old surfer was bitten on his thigh, although his injuries were described as minor.
