Severe Weather Threat Over For South Florida
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - After an afternoon of gusty winds and severe thunderstorms, the weather has calmed down.
The tornado watch that was in effect across all of South Florida has ended.
Wind gusts through the afternoon were between 40 and 6o mph.
The dangerous weather was spawned by an area of low pressure in the northern Gulf of Mexico that helped pump moisture into the area.

Lightning Safety from the National Weather Service:
- NO PLACE outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area!!
- If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you.
- When you hear thunder, immediately move to safe shelter: a substantial building with electricity or plumbing or an enclosed, metal-topped vehicle with windows up.
- Stay in safe shelter at least 30 minutes after you hear the last sound of thunder.
The cold front should clear the area by early Friday morning, but a few lingering clouds and a few showers are possible for the first part of the morning. However, the area will clear out and turn cooler and breezy with lots of sunshine by the afternoon.
