ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) – Following prostate surgery last week, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has been informed he's cancer free, the senator's office says.
Nelson's wife, Grace, said "our prayers have been answered," in a statement released Monday, adding that a pathology report confirmed that her husband was free of cancer.
Grace Nelson added that Bill was "raring to go," but would stay at home a few more days at doctors' request.
The 72-year-old Florida Democrat had the surgery last week in Washington, D.C., five days after he publicly disclosed that he had prostate cancer.
Nelson had said the cancer was discovered early during a routine medical exam and scans showed no evidence that the cancer had spread.
