One dead in motorcycle accident on northbound I-95 Thursday morning
FORT LAUDERDALE - A section of northbound I-95 was shut down for hours on Thursday after a fatal accident involving two motorcycles.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, around 3 a.m., a 36-year-old Tamarac man was riding a BMW motorcycle when he went down south of Sunrise Boulevard and slid over several lanes. He then lost contact with his bike, slid over one more lane, and was run over by several vehicles. He died.
A 43-year-old Pompano Beach woman on a Yamaha motorcycle hit the man's bike, which caught fire, and flew off her bike. She suffered leg injuries.
During the morning commute, all northbound and express lanes between Broward Boulevard and Sunrise Boulevard were closed to traffic.
Also closed were the eastbound I-595 ramp to northbound I-95, the northbound I-95 on-ramp from Broward Boulevard, and the northbound I-95 on-ramp from Davie Boulevard.
Those heading to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport were advised to take the Turnpike to I-595 and then head east.
