KENDALL (CBSMiami) -- Three schools in Kendall went on lockdown Friday after initial reports of shots fired at a nearby park but it wasn't actually shots that were heard but a school resource officer who found what he thought was a bullet hole in the building at Ruth Owens Kruse Educational Center.
A spokeswoman for Miami-Dade schools says the hole was found in the window of an empty classroom.
The school, located at 11001 SW 76th Street went into lockdown along with Brucie Ball Educational Center and Terra Environmental Research Institute as a precaution.
Miami-Dade Police went to nearby Kendall Indian Hammocks Park to investigate.
Officers could also be seen at the Kruse Educational Center looking at the hole in the panel of the window.
Isabel Simon, a teacher at the school, told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "I was not allowed to go back to the school because of the lockdown. Initially we did hear a report of shots being fired. It is scary with everything going on right now. But I understand all the kids are ok and I am happy about that. It's still frightening."
Julio Anaya said he rushed to the school after hearing that his daughter had been locked in a room.
"She just said she was locked in the locker room but then a teacher came by and got everyone and I heard she was ok. But I was worried. I was very worried. That's why I am here and I am glad about that. My daughter did hear that there were bullet holes in the wall and that there were two of them. This is a really good school and this should never happen here but it does and at least everyone is ok."
After interviewing people at the park and the schools, it was determined no shots were actually fired.
Miami-Dade Schools officials say there was no physical evidence of shots being fired and no bullets or casings were found in or around the school.
The lockdowns were lifted around 1:00 p.m.
