Samsung Sending Fire Kits To Note 7 Customers; Nearly Doubles Recall

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Samsung, the world's largest manufacturer of smartphones, is sending fire kits to its customers due to the risk their recalled Note 7 phones will catch fire.
The prepaid mailing kits are for U.S. customers who bought the phones on Samsung.com.
Customers will receive a series of boxes and protective bags, including one with a special fire resistant coating.
The company's website explains how the process works, plus instructions to ship by ground and not by air.
Samsung stopped sales after two recalls and several cases of phone fires including one that prompted a Southwest Airlines plane evacuation.
The South Korean company has widened its recall to 1.9 million Note 7 phones, which includes the 1 million Note 7s initially recalled on September 15.
Starting 3 p.m. Thursday, consumers who trade a Note 7 for another Samsung smartphone will get up to a $100 credit.
Customers trading a Note 7 for a refund or another smartphone made by another manufacturer will get a $25 credit.
