MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins are in search of a new manager after announcing that general manager-turned-manager Dan Jennings would be returning to the front office in 2016.

While the Marlins have interviewed several candidates already, such as Manny Acta, Larry Bowa and Bo Porter, there is another guy that has been linked to the team for the past several weeks.

Even before he "mutually parted ways" with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Don Mattingly has seen his name consistently brought up regarding the Marlins' managerial opening.

The two seem like a great fit, with Mattingly's experience and success as both a player and manager, not to mention his 'big name' appeal, falling in line with what Miami has said they're looking for in a new skipper.

According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Marlins consider him a "leading candidate for managerial job."

Mattingly is still under contract with Los Angeles through the 2016 season but the team would actually save money on that deal if he signs a new one with the Marlins, or any other team.

In five seasons as the Dodgers' manager Mattingly had a 446-363 record, leading the team to three straight NL West division championships from 2013 to 2015.

The success didn't continue into the playoffs though, as Los Angeles had just an 8-11 record in the postseason under Mattingly.
