MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The player who had a major role in the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal in 2013 is ending his pro football career.

Offensive lineman Jonathan Martin, who played for Miami and the San Francisco 49ers, is retiring from the National Football League according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The report states that Martin is retiring due to a back injury that requires surgery.

While a member of the Dolphins, Martin left the team during the 2013 season citing issues in the locker room with fellow offensive lineman Richie Incognito, among others.

Martin never played for Miami again, who ultimately traded him to San Francisco where he was reunited with his college coach Jim Harbaugh, who coached Martin at Stanford.
