DAVIE (CBSMiami) - Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi has reportedly been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In a surprise move, the Fins dumped Ajayi in favor of a fourth-round pick, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
The trade was announced by Philadelphia at 9:44 a.m.
It came after last Thursday's 40-0 embarrassing loss to the Baltimore Ravens. After the game, Coach Adam Gase said some of his best players on offense were the problem.
Gase even called out Ajayi for not doing his job, saying the players and Ajayi were not working hard enough.
"We've got to stop trying to hit home runs all the time, why not just take the four or five yards we are going to get. It comes down to everybody doing their job. If they could do that, it might help," said Gase on Friday.
Ajayi, 24, was Miami's starting running back and was originally drafted by the Dolphins in the fifth round in 2015.
So far this season, Ajayi has 465 yards rushing, which ranks him 13th in the league. He only rushed for 23 yards in the blowout game against the Ravens.
His per carry average has plunged to 3.4 yards, making 43rd of 49 backs. A far cry from his Pro Bowl season last year when he exploded for over 1,200 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Ajayi took to Twitter Tuesday morning to thank the team and the fans.
