Witnesses: 5 People Hit Man With Object Before He's Shot In The Redland

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting in the Redland that has left one man hospitalized.

According to Miami-Dade investigators, units were called around 11:45 a.m. to investigate a shooting in the area of SW 187 Avenue and 240th Street.

Officers located an adult man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Witnesses stated at least 5 subjects hit the man with an object, shot him, then took off in a light colored SUV.

The victim was taken by air to Jackson South Medical Center in unknown condition.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Christ Thomas told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that the victim did not know his attackers and said it is not known why this happened.

While there are a number of witnesses, police have so far not released a description of any of the attackers. Thomas said it is not known what sort of object the man was struck with.

CBS4 spoke to an identified man who works at the home where the incident happened. He said there were some frightening moments.

In Spanish, he said "About five or 6 people came inside with guns and started shooting. I heard people arguing from a distance. I had to go hide because they were very close to me. I had where the pigs were at. I hid for 10 or 15 minutes, Police came with their helicopter. They came to try to catch them but they ran off and jumped in their car and left."

Other people at the home told CBS4 they did not want to talk about what happened.

Thomas said anyone with information that helps detectives should call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at
(305) 471-TIPS (8477).

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
