Red Sox Apologize For Starless Lineup Against Miami
JUPITER (CBSMiami) – The Boston Red Sox have apologized to the Miami Marlins for doing what Marlins fans say the team did last season, putting a team of barely major league quality players on the field.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Marlins executives were angry at the Red Sox after Boston sent a lineup out against Miami that featured seven of nine players without any Major League Baseball experience.
Complicating matters for the Marlins was the team charged an extra fee for any fans attending the Marlins vs. Red Sox game. The Marlins charged anywhere between 42 and 66 percent more than the normal ticket price for the game, according to Deadspin.com.
The Marlins reportedly were so upset they were considering contacting Major League Baseball about the problem. However, by Friday morning, the Marlins front office said it did not contact the league office about the substandard lienup.
"The league watches, monitors all our lineups," Marlins president Mike Hill told CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. "So if there was in issue, they'll deal directly with the Red Sox."
The Herald said Boston General Manager Ben Cherington emailed the Marlins front office during the game to apologize for the lineup saying injuries were an issue getting more star players to the Marlins game.
But, perhaps the Marlins should be just as upset with themselves. Before the game was called due to thunderstorms, the Red Sox's starless lineup had outhit the Marlins 7-2 and the game was tied at 0.
