MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- He's best known for his smooth jump shot but next month, it may be fruit smoothies and shots of wheatgrass that put Ray Allen back in Miami's spotlight.
In March, the former Heat superstar, two-time NBA champion and actor is opening up Grown, an organic fast food restaurant that promises to shake up the way we think about eating healthy.
Allen told CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald that the idea came from dealing with his 9-year-old son's battle with Type 1 diabetes and the struggles he and his wife found getting the right nutrient-rich food for the child.
While the shop's menu includes exactly what you'd expect to find in an organic shop -- soups, salads, wraps, juices, etc. -- it will also offer a drive-thru window and carryout for on-the-go customers. Their slogan -- "real food, cooked slow for fast people."
A rooftop garden guarantees the freshest ingredients and the place itself is built with environmentally-friendly materials in mind.
Items range from $4 to $18 and will include breakfast, lunch, dinner and a kids menu.
Allen and his wife, Shannon, said it's taken them six years of conceptualizing and planning the restaurant.
Grown opens in March and is located at 8211 South Dixie Highway.
Hey, Miami! Are you enthusiastic? Do you have a positive outlook on life? Do you have a growth mindset? Are you...
