MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A disturbance over the Gulf of Mexico is moving toward South Florida with showers way out ahead of it.

The system itself won't move all the way across the peninsula until early Monday so we'll see a chance of showers and possible thunderstorms at any time Sunday morning through Monday morning.

Rainfall totals do not appear to be very impressive with this system as it appears to have gotten a little bit weaker since Friday.

However, now that South Florida is in the dry season any rain is welcome rain and means we won't need the sprinklers as much.

Drier air should then take hold of the weather pattern for most of the new work week.

Highs will be in the upper 70s Sunday and Monday then climb back into the lower 80s for the rest of the week.

Nighttime lows will average in the mid to upper 60s.
