MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A 5-month old puppy who was the victim of a hit and run in in Florida City over the weekend will soon be ready for a new home.
After dragging himself off the street Puppy Ken, a lab mix, is now awaiting surgery at Kendall Animal Clinic.
Officials said a car hit the puppy on October 25th near 174 NW 2nd Ave and then sped off.

The 34-pound puppy was left bleeding on the road and used his two front legs to drag himself to the sidewalk, leaving a trail of blood.
"You could tell he was reaching out. He was there and he wanted to survive," said Jacquelyn Johnston of the non-profit organization No Paw Left Behind which footed the bill to have Ken taken to an emergency veterinarian for care.
Miami-Dade Animal Services picked him up later that evening.
Ken was hospitalized in an emergency clinic until Monday morning when he could be transferred to surgical specialists for evaluation.
While he was lucky to not have internal bleeding, x-rays revealed that, in addition to his horrible flesh wounds and marks from where the tires ran over one of his legs, his other leg was also shattered.
"One of his legs has a shattered femur, which is the long bone, and the other has a shattered shin. But apart from that, the difficult thing to treat is he has a degloving injury, meaning all of the skin and tissue and ligaments have all been stripped away from his bone," said Dr. Gonzalo Pou of Pou Veterinary Group.
They said if Ken had not been rescued, he would have be euthanized at the shelter since they don't have vets after hours.
Despite extensive injuries Ken is upbeat and seemingly just happy to be alive. He is doing much better but still has at least one major surgery ahead and extensive physical therapy but his doctors are hopeful.
"He seems like a trooper. He is strong willed. There is no doubt in my mind, given some good care, he will recover well," said Pou.
While Ken is waiting to get surgery, he has a trail of at least $5,000 in medical bills.
No Paw Left Behind is asking for the community's help to cover the puppy's medical expenses.
Once Puppy Ken is operated, he will be ready for a "fur-ever" home.
